Brew your own new moon manifestation oil

How to Brew a New Moon Manifestation Oil

The new moon is all about planting new seeds and setting new intentions for the coming lunar cycle. Setting new intentions has always been hard for me! Decision fatigue, lack of confidence, and a little bit of imposter syndrome are all struggles and trauma responses that can make fresh starts and establishing new goals feel really scary and difficult. Fortunately, I have created this super supportive new moon manifestation oil to guide me in these types of workings, and I’m sharing it with you today!

My intent when creating this oil blend was to craft a spell oil that supports:

  • neuro-spicy witches who struggle with their focus, self trust, and imposter syndrome.
  • witches with deep trauma around decision making and trusting their intuition.
  • witches who are chronically ill or feel at war with their body which tends to kill confidence.
  • anybody who struggles with confidence, self trust, or stepping into their power.

As a busy witchy mama who checks off all of the above, the new moon can be challenging. You’re looking back at a past which might be filled with struggle and disappointment. All the while, you’re expected to start making plans for the future which is entirely shrouded in mystery, and you might not really know what you want. You might be lacking confidence in yourself and feel physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted.

This is a recipe for disaster and has shut me down before I really got going on more than one occasion. I designed this new moon manifestation oil to feel like a cozy, nurturing embrace from Mama Earth herself. Use it for support whenever you need to reflect back on previous goals or begin setting new goals and intentions. Bring it back out whenever you feel like you need a magical boost as you work toward those goals.

The new moon is the point during the lunar cycle when the moon is completely shadowed and no part is illuminated. This is considered to be the start of the 28 day lunar cycle.

New moons are all about new beginnings and fresh starts. The previous cycle has ended, and the time has come to reflect on the progress of your previous goals and plan for what you will manifest in the coming cycle.

New moons are perfect for magic related to transformation, new beginnings, fresh starts, rebirth, reflection, and shedding old, unwanted energies and patterns to make way for big changes.

The new moon can also be a great time for quiet, stillness, and self care if you’re not feeling energetically up to the work of transformation.

What is a Manifestation Oil?

My new moon manifestation oil is an intention oil. Intention oils are used in witchcraft rituals and spell work to add very specific energies to the working. They are often charged with energy using corresponding oils, herbs, lunar phases, celestial alignments, and timing.

You might also see an intention oil called a magical oil, ritual oil, conjure oil, anointing oil, conditioning oil, blessing oil, dressing oil, hoodoo oil, or spell oil. The process of making each kind of oil can vary depending on the practice, but the idea remains the same.

They support the practitioner in establishing the proper mindset, creating the right mood or aesthetic to the work space, adding an element of ritual to the practice, and giving spell work that extra powerful “oomph”.

You can make an intention oil for practically any intention, energy, or desired outcome. They can be incredibly simple – sometimes just some olive oil that has been blessed. Or they can be extremely intricate, including dozens of ingredients and requiring weeks to properly brew.

Ultimately, the power of intention oils come from the practitioner. The ingredients simply serve as a vessel to hold the focus or intention. That means you have the freedom and flexibility to choose what goes into your oils. Ask 100 witches how they brew up money oil, and you’ll get 110 different recipes.

You can follow my recipe exactly, or you can make changes and adjustments to suite your own personal needs, budget, and intuition. It’s all about what works best for you.

New Moon Manifestation Oil Correspondences

While you don’t have to know all the correspondences of the ingredients in your oil, having this knowledge will help you charge your ingredients with intent and make adjustments as needed.

Here’s what I have included in this new moon manifestation oil recipe.

OILS

  • Fractionated coconut oil – Shelf stable, unscented, and wonderful for the skin, FCO makes a great base for spell oils. It’s also protective, cleansing, and draws good luck.
  • Castor oil – Incredibly nourishing to dry or aged skin, but also very thick and sticky, so a little goes a long way.
  • Peppermint essential oil – brings focus and clarity as you meditate on your intentions.
  • Neroli essential oil – helps bring light to the darkness, allowing you to uncover the best intentions and workings for the coming lunar cycle.
  • Jasmine absolute –  straight jasmine oil is basically impossible to make because of how many delicate jasmine flowers it would take, so an extract or absolute is more affordable and also possible. It aids with meditation and relaxation, and boosts your confidence.
  • Vetiver essential oil – balancing, calming, and grounding.
  • Patchouli essential oil – grounding, aids with manifestation.
  • Vitamin E oil – a few drops helps extend the shelf life of your oil.

HERBS – be sure to use dried herbs to prevent mold.

  •  Mugwort – supports intuition and psychic ability.
  • Chamomile – brings peace, calm, transformation, and gentle protective energy.
  • Patchouli – grounding, aids with manifestation.
  • Lavender buds – brings a sense of calm and supports intuition.
  • Jasmine buds – aids with meditation and relaxation, boosts your confidence.
  • Bay leaf – the wishing herb, aids in manifestation.

EXTRAS – items that aren’t required but that add more energy to the oil.

  • Moonstone chips – associated with the moon and goddess energy.
  • Labradorite chips – helps you tap into your power and intuition.
  • Moon symbols or charms – can be tied to the bottle or drawn on the label.
  • Black, grey, midnight blue, or dark purple colors – add color magic to your oil with food dye, mica powder, or biodegradable glitter.

How to Make New Moon Manifestation Oil

Begin by going through your own spice rack and witchy apothecary. What do you have on hand that corresponds to the new moon and setting new intentions.

What you'll need:

Best time to brew: You can brew this oil at any time, but it’s best charged by the light of (or lack thereof) a new moon.

Circle casting is optional, but it’s a good idea if you’ll be using the oil to work through some deep trauma.

Materials:

  • A container– Glass is ideal so that your essential oils don’t break down a plastic one. You can use a dropper jar, essential oil dram, mason jar, old jelly jar, or anything else you have on hand that’s clean and dry. I used a 2 oz dropper jar like these ones for easy application.
  • A label – You’ll want to remember what’s in the jar later on. You can also just write directly on the jar with a Sharpie.
  • A pan, large oil warmer, or crock pot – to allow your oils and herbs to steep and meld together. A little egg pan like this one is perfect for a 2 oz brew.
  • 2 oz of a carrier oil or blend of oils – I used fractionated coconut oil and caster oil because it’s what I had on hand. Keep in mind that strong smelling oils (like olive) might change the scent profile.
  • Peppermint, neroli, patchouli, vetiver, and jasmine essential oils – the scent profile of this blend is pretty intense – earthy, sharp, and minty all at the same time.
  • Dried bay leaf, patchouli, mugwort, chamomile, jasmine flower, and lavender buds– fresh herbs will likely go moldy and ruin your oil.
  • A few moonstone and labradorite chips –  since my chips are super small, I used 5 moonstone and 6 labradorite for a total of 11 chips – the number of manifestation.

Bonus materials:

  • A little bit of a deep, dark colored cosmetic grade mica powder adds an etherial and magical aesthetic to this oil which can help you set a witchy tone when it’s time to use it.

How to cast:

Step 1: Clean and cleanse your container, tools, ingredients, and workspace.

Step 2: Measure out 2 oz of carrier oil. If you’re using castor oil like I did, go for a ratio of like 1.75 oz other oils and .25 oz castor oil. It’s very thick and sticky.

Step 3: Add your oil to a pan, crock pot, or oil burner set over very low heat, like basically just a warming temperature. Add a good sized pinch of each dry herb to the oil, charging it with your intention each time. Here are some examples to guide you, but feel free to make them your own.

  • “I charge this bay leaf to support me in manifesting my goals through the coming month.”
  • “I charge this patchouli to allow me to hear my intuition and inner voice.”
  • “I charge this chamomile to keep me feeling calm and protected through transitions and transformations.”
  • “I charge this jasmine to boost my confidence and allow me to hear and trust my inner goddess/god.”
  • “I charge this lavender to provide calming energy so I can fully sense and embrace my intuition.”

Step 4: Give your herbs and oils a good clockwise stir while reciting the following incantation or one that you create yourself. As you stir, push your energy into the brew.

  • “As I stir this new moon oil, I charge it with the energy of intention setting and manifestation. May I come to my magic with a sense of focus, calm, and confidence. I trust my intuition to guide me towards my highest good and bring light to situations when I feel caught in the dark.”

Step 5: Allow your mixture to steep for as long as your intuition tells you to. I left mine on the stove top for 3 hours at the lowest possible heat. If you turn it any higher, make sure to check on it often to prevent burning the herbs or scorching the oil.

Step 7: Begin creating your essential oil blend in the container you will use. Add top notes first, middle notes, next, and end with base notes. Swirl scents together to combine them.

When mixing essential oils for scent, you want a ratio of about 30% top notes/50%middle notes/20% base notes. For a skin safe body oil, you want a 1-2% dilution of essential oil to carrier oil. These instructions account for both of these considerations, so keep them in mind if you make changes.

  • Top notes – 4 drops peppermint, 2 drops neroli
  • Middle notes – 8 drops jasmine or 30 drops if you’re using one that’s already commercially cut with carrier oil (replace this with 5 drops lavender and 3 drops chamomile if jasmine isn’t accessible, or any combo of these scents that totals 8 drops)
  • Base notes – 2 drops vetiver, 2 drops patchouli

Just like the herbs, charge oils with your intent. Here are some examples you can use when charging oils.

  • “I charge this peppermint to bring clarity and focus to my reflections and intentions.”
  • “I charge this neroli to shine a guiding light on me when I feel lost in the dark.”
  • “I charge this jasmine to bring out my inner goddess, confident and always trusting my intuition.”
  • “I charge this vetiver to bring balance, calm, and grounding energy when I feel overwhelmed or out of focus.”
  • “I charge this patchouli to manifest my intentions into reality.”

Step 8: When your oil is finished brewing, allow it to cool until it’s no longer hot to the touch. This happens pretty fast with a small batch like this. Add the oil to your container. You can strain out some or all of the herbs, or you can put all the herbs right into the bottle with the oil. Personally, I like to leave the herbs in the bottle to let them keep infusing. Also, it looks super pretty and witchy!

Step 9: If using crystals, pigment, or any other elements, charge and add them to the bottle now. Give your bottle a clockwise swirl while saying the same intention you used to mix your herbs and oil. Then give the bottle 13 good shakes while pushing your energy and intent into the bottle.

Step 10: Charge it up under the new moon. Remember to label it with the oil name, date, and moon phase. Store in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight.

How to Use Your New Moon Manifestation Oil

Now that your new moon manifestation oil is prepped, it’s finally time to use it! Remember, the purpose of this oil is to support you through reflecting on previous works and establishing fresh new goals and intentions to manifest into your reality.

As a body oil, this blend keeps a scent for about an hour, and the profile changes and transforms to become increasingly deeper and more earthy as the mint, neroli, and jasmine eventually fade away.

New Moon Manifestation Oil has top notes of peppermint which give an immediate boost of focus and clarity as you reflect on your intention. Then the scent transforms to a rich and complex blend of neroli and jasmine that supports you in finding your inner goddess/confidence and brings light to anything lingering in the shadows that might get in the way of your manifestation. Undertones of earthy vetiver and patchouli keep you grounded and balanced, helping bring forth your new moon manifestations and supporting you in getting the job done.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to use this oil:

  • Use during meditation to keep you focused, confident, and centered.
  • Anoint your new moon spell candles with this oil for an extra boost.
  • Dress a candle with the oil to burn during your manifestation work for an extra boost.
  • Add it to your petition papers or sigils.
  • Dab a drop or two on your journal pages or vision board.
  • Add some to a self care or new moon ritual bath.
  • Wear it as a body oil or perfume to tap into the energy of the new moon.
  • Put a couple drops in a diffuser necklace to bring with you when taking on new challenges.
  • Put some of the oil in an oil burner (not a diffuser!) to charge your space with energy.
