Has anyone else been watching too many late night scary movies? Just me? I know I’ve scared myself out of good sleep at least once! We’re inching closer to Samhain, and the veil between the world of the living and the dead gets thinner. My Bump in the Night simple protection spell is just what you need if ever woken up in the night with your skin crawling. It works if you’ve ever been walking alone and had the sense that someone or something was watching. It even works on spooked little ones rustling around in bed.

Basically, it’s ideal for any time you ever get the creeps and need an instant protective shield around you. 

It’s a great tool to have in your witchy arsenal because it doesn’t need any tools or ingredients. Additionally, once you build your skill level, you can whip up this protection instantly. You can even expand it around large areas or move it to other people. 

There are a couple of cons, however. This strategy relies entirely on visualization. If you struggle to visualize, this method will be difficult. It’s also temporary, at least unless you’re really skilled at energy manipulation. Once you stop focusing, it begins to fade. My record for keeping the shield up after I lose focus is probably 10 minutes. 

But that’s enough time to get back to sleep or transition to a different location. 

How to Cast This Simple Protection Spell

The idea with this simple protection spell is to create an energetic bubble around yourself that pushes away anything unwanted. You can keep it small and snug around your body or push the bubble outward to cover a large area. If you can visualize it, you can shield it. 

For me, the bubble looks like a swirling, iridescent, whitish-bluish bubble. It actually reminds me a lot of a Harry Potter style Patronus charm. The bubble kind they use on the dementors, not the animal kind. 

You’ll have to explore the colors and styles that work best for you. Maybe you see a sphere of air or water, or possibly an impenetrable metal shield. The general idea on how to create the shield is the same no matter what you see.

Materials Needed:

  • Literally just yourself and your imagination

How to cast:

Step 1: Something is creeping you out! Take a deep breath and try to calm your mind. 

Step 2: Imagine the energy within your body starting to pool together. Feel and imagine it gathering at the base of your spine and moving up through your core and out the top of your head.

Step 3: As this energy begins to spill out from your crown, imagine it beginning to take shape. Don’t force a certain texture or color. Allow it to instinctively develop. The only thing you need to manipulate is the shape. Begin to move this energy, so it forms a fully closed sphere around you. If you’re having trouble with this, you can use your hands to help direct the energy. 

Step 4: Now that you have formed your sphere, envision it blocking whatever might be trying to attack you. Start to push this bubble outward. The further it stretches, the harder it pushes away the unwanted energy. Continue to imagine this process until that thing decides to leave. 

Step 5: You can now choose to try and keep that protective bubble around you for as long as possible, or you can choose to pull the energy back into yourself in the exact reverse order of however you saw it come out.

What Else Can You Do With This Simple Protection Spell?

Once this visualization is done, you should start to feel safer and less scared. As you get better with energy manipulation, you can start making huge protective bubbles around your whole room or house. You can even send these protective shields out to other people. I’ve used them to soothe little ones caught in a nightmare, help a loved one back into a deep state of sleep, minimize anxiety, and even take snoring down a decibel or two. 

The more you practice, the stronger you’ll become! 

I mean, if you’re not going to stop watching horror movies, after all, you might as well have a good strategy at hand for coping with them.
